Caitlin Palagi is an independent artist at Caitlin Palagi Creations. She believes in the process of intuitive art – in finding our creative voices by trusting in our minds and bodies. Her growth as an artist occurred when she began leaning into her creativity and stopped analyzing it.
Caitlin is primarily a self-taught artist. While she pursued an art minor in college, she ultimately dropped it just short of completion, to make a timely graduation in May 2012. Caitlin graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Saint Xavier University, after a six-year struggle to complete her course work through chronic and acute medical issues.
Caitlin began painting long before college, and art was a key coping mechanism as she navigated surgeries, hospitalizations, classes, and most of all, trying to blend in with her peers.
Caitlin went on to work in market research and software sales, working for some of the largest software corporations during her tenure. She eventually left the corporate world to stay home with her children and attend to their medical and developmental needs.
The juxtaposition of coming from such an analytical background to stepping back into her original creative roots has brought her joy in process art.
Caitlin enjoys sharing her love for intuitive artwork with local mental health groups in the Fox Valley area to join wellness and creativity. She is an active member of her local arts community from planning to painting. Her artwork has been shown at local libraries and galleries in the greater Chicagoland area. Caitlin’s artwork can also be found in both her customer’s homes as well as local business establishments spanning from Long Boat Key, Florida to St. Charles, IL.
Caitlin thoroughly enjoys connecting with people and is a resident artist and instructor at Water Street Studios. You can find her studio on the first floor of Water Street Studios [Studio 5].
Art has always been a part of my life and a vital coping mechanism during years of chronic health issues.
My health prevented me from making art for nearly a decade, and now I am back at it, and sharing it with others for the first time ever.
This is a very new venture and vulnerability to share this journey with others, and I couldn't be more excited.
Welcome to my refuge, I hope you find the same warmth and comfort I have found here many times, over the years.
I believe in finding my creative voice by trusting in my mind and body. My growth as an artist occurred when I began leaning into my creativity and stopped analyzing it.
The process of art, just like life, is a temporary one. Any perceived mistakes I make on the canvas are only held for however long I fixate on them. If I keep moving with the process, things may get better; they may also appear to get worse at times. However, in the end with enough paint, patience, and time, they usually end up coming full circle, at times yielding different and more satisfying results than I first imagined. Knowing this allows me to be more present in the moment and quiet my inner critic, which held me back from art for so many years. As such, this is a creative-thought process I am passionate about sharing with others.
No longer is the blank canvas the gatekeeper to my creativity.
I trust ideas will spring forth, if I just start and let the process guide me.
